A Child’s Eyes Matter
As parents, it’s our responsibility to ensure that our kids receive comprehensive eye examinations when they should. According to the American Optometric Association, a child should receive a couple of exams before first grade, then 1 exam per year until adulthood.
Keep in mind this is a minimum recommendation. Your eye doctor considers your child’s ocular health and may recommend a more frequent exam schedule based on their needs.

The Importance of Children’s Eye Exams
Typically, our eyes are done developing by our early 20s. As your child’s eyes develop, they are rapidly and drastically changing.
If refractive errors like myopia are left untreated, they could cause school issues, such as trouble seeing the board or difficulty with sports activities. Good vision is integral for things like reading and comprehension, seeing lessons clearly, and social development.
Additionally, the earlier myopia control begins, the better the chances your child won’t need further correction like glasses or contacts later in life. And if correction is still required, it could be less because of the early myopia control.
